A client from Palo Alto, Scott, contacted us regarding inconsistent hot water from his Navien tankless water heater, model NR-240A. He requested a routine maintenance service to ensure proper operation.
During our inspection, we identified the need for descaling and discovered a malfunctioning flow sensor. The sensor issue caused the client to open two hot water taps simultaneously to reach the desired temperature.
Maintenance and Flow Sensor Assessment
We performed the descaling procedure using a specialized chemical solution. After descaling, the system initially operated normally. We recommended replacing the faulty flow sensor and provided a detailed estimate, which the client approved.
Circulation Pump Issue
A few hours later, the client reported an unexpected system shutdown. Upon returning, we discovered that the circulation pump had started leaking after descaling. The leak allowed moisture to reach electronic components, triggering a safety shutdown.
The pump already had a minor, almost invisible seal leak, which became apparent only after descaling. Although the external rubber gasket looked intact, it no longer provided proper sealing.
Repair and System Restoration
We ordered a new circulation pump and installed it within two days. After replacement, the water heater was fully restored and is now operating reliably.
The client can now enjoy consistent hot water without any interruptions or concerns.
