Radiant & Hydronic Engineering

Radiant Floor Heating Installation

ABC Service installs every flavor of hydronic radiant floor — crawlspace retrofits with aluminum heat-transfer plates, staple-up assemblies under existing subfloors, slab-on-grade pours for new construction, and gypcrete or thin-slab overlays for remodels. Each layout is engineered from a room-by-room heat-loss calculation, with loop lengths, tube spacing, and supply temperatures matched to the floor finish and the building envelope.

Most existing Bay Area homes can be radiant-converted from the crawlspace without tearing up a single floorboard. We pull PEX through joist bays, clamp it into extruded aluminum transfer plates, and pack R-19+ insulation underneath so the heat goes up — not into the dirt. New-construction slabs are pre-insulated, pressure-tested before the pour, and photographed for the as-built record. Loops are balanced at the manifold with per-circuit flow meters, not guessed.

Hydronic Diagnostics & System Repair

A large share of the hydronic work we do is fixing other people's installations. Uneven heating, cold zones, air-locked loops, short-cycling boilers, gurgling pipes, runaway return temperatures, oversized circulators fighting undersized piping — these are not equipment failures, they are design and workmanship failures. Our team has seen them all, and we know how to unwind them without ripping the system out.

Diagnostics are systematic: ΔT readings across every zone, loop-by-loop flow verification, manifold balancing checks, air-separator and expansion-tank evaluation, outdoor-reset curve audits, mixing-valve and primary/secondary verification, and control-strategy review against the building's actual load. Our engineers carry deep European hydronic experience — the tradition where radiant and panel-radiator systems have been engineered to a far higher standard for decades — and we apply that discipline to every Bay Area system we touch.

Panel Radiators & Comfort Heating

European-style panel radiators deliver room-by-room comfort that forced-air simply cannot match — silent, dust-free, and tunable to the degree on every wall. ABC Service specifies low-temperature steel panel radiators and designer vertical radiators from Buderus, Runtal, Myson, and Jaga, sized to each room's actual heat loss rather than off a generic chart.

Low supply-water temperatures (35–55 °C) keep panels quiet, pair beautifully with condensing boilers and air-to-water heat pumps, and give every occupant per-room control via thermostatic valves or smart actuators. We route supply and return cleanly — concealed in walls or floors where the architecture allows — and finish every install with crisp escutcheons, level mounting, and air-bled, fully balanced loops. The result feels and looks like a premium European home, not a retrofit.

Manifolds, Pumps & Zoning

The manifold cabinet is the brain of a radiant or panel-radiator system. We build stainless or brass manifolds with per-loop flow meters, electronic actuators, isolation valves, and integrated air vents — laid out so every loop can be read, balanced, and serviced individually. Pumps are sized to the actual head loss of the loops they feed, not bought oversized 'just in case.'

Zoning, mixing, and hydraulic separation are designed together: low-loss headers or closely-spaced tees to decouple boiler and emitter flow, three-way or thermostatic mixing valves to protect floor temperatures, ECM circulators tuned to delta-P or constant-pressure curves, and smart thermostats wired into proper zoning logic — not piggy-backed onto consumer smart-home gadgets. Outdoor reset and weather-compensated control are commissioned on-site so the system runs at the lowest possible water temperature, all season.

Radiant Hydronic Heating
Why it matters

Why this is worth doing right.

European hydronic discipline

Decades of European radiant and panel-radiator experience applied to Bay Area homes — design, install, and corrective work.

Fixes inherited mistakes

Most hydronic complaints aren't equipment failures — they're design and workmanship failures. We unwind them without a tear-out.

Silent, even comfort

No registers, no fan noise, no blown dust. Radiant and panels deliver warmth you feel rather than hear.

Pairs with heat pumps

Low-temperature radiant and panels are the ideal emitter for modern heat pumps and condensing boilers — engineered for the long run.

Our process

How a radiant hydronic heating project runs.

  1. 01
    Evaluate

We assess existing equipment, loads, venting, electrical, and site constraints on-site.

  2. 02
    Design

We size and specify equipment to the building — with options and trade-offs explained plainly.

  3. 03
    Install

A dedicated lead tech handles a permitted, clean install with finish-grade workmanship.

  4. 04
    Commission

We start up, balance, and verify the system against design intent with calibrated instruments.

  5. 05
    Support

We walk you through operation, file rebates, and stand behind the system long-term.
