ABC Service performed a professional inspection of a Carrier rooftop HVAC unit (Model 575CNWB24040N) after the customer reported concerns about possible mold and dust inside the ductwork prior to restarting the heating system.

During the inspection, the rooftop unit was found to be operating within normal parameters. No critical mechanical or operational issues were identified. However, several important observations were made that directly impact indoor air quality and the long-term reliability of the system.

A light layer of dust was observed inside the ductwork. At this stage, the level of contamination does not require immediate duct cleaning, but regular monitoring was recommended as part of routine preventive maintenance.

The inspection also revealed that the rooftop filter compartment cover was not properly secured. This condition may allow outside air to be drawn directly into the system, which can cause unpleasant odors inside the building. The cover was properly secured during the inspection.

Another key finding was that the system is currently operating without an air filter installed. Operating an HVAC unit without proper filtration can lead to coil contamination, reduced system efficiency, and premature wear of major components. Based on the system layout, the original filter location is difficult to access, which likely explains why a filter was never installed during the initial setup.
